Buenos Aires, November 19 (NA) — The Argentine Football Association (AFA) announced that this Wednesday it transferred the overdue payments to San Lorenzo players corresponding to the July balance and the full month of August. According to an investigation by the Argentine News Agency, the measure was carried out on the instruction of President Claudio Tapia, amidst the economic crisis facing the Boedo-based institution. The body also intervened in the contractual situation of forward Alexis Cuello, who had formally demanded payment from the club. According to the AFA, the forward was paid the August balance and the full amounts for September and October, which prevented him from becoming a free agent due to non-payment, which would have caused an economic detriment to the club if it had happened.
AFA Statement: “Today, on the instruction of the President of the AFA, Claudio Tapia, the salaries corresponding to the month of July (balance) and August were transferred to the bank account of each of the players of the Atlético San Lorenzo Club. Regarding the player Cuello, who had formally notified the entity, the balance of August and the full amounts of September and October were paid, avoiding that he would be in a position to be a free agent due to non-payment, which would have generated an economic detriment to the institution.”
What happened with Cuello
The forward Alexis Cuello had demanded San Lorenzo for a debt of 75 thousand dollars, exposing another salary conflict in a squad going through economic problems. The former Almagro forward claims he has not received any payment since his arrival in January 2024, and if the club does not respond within the legal deadline, he could become a free agent. Cuello states that he has not received bonuses, the percentage corresponding to the loan, nor the agreed amount after the definitive purchase from Almagro.
